"I'm not in this sport to take punishment. I'm in this sport to give it."
â Floyd Mayweather Jr.
STYLE ANALYSIS
Mayweather is the most complete defensive fighter in modern boxing. His Philly Shell stance â lead hand low at the waist, rear hand glued to the cheek â looks reckless until you realize every inch is calculated. The lead shoulder rolls punches off the chin while the rear hand catches anything that gets through. The pull counter is his signature: he reads the opponent's jab, pulls his head back just enough to make it miss, then fires a straight right over the top while they're still extended. He doesn't beat you with power. He beats you by making you miss 70% of your shots while landing clean counters that score on every judge's card. His footwork is subtle â small adjustments, never wasted motion, always at the perfect distance to make you fall short. The check hook against aggressive fighters was another staple: as they lunged in, he'd pivot 90 degrees and land a hook on the way out.
