Slip Rope Drill

Rope or String (tied at head height)
🥊

Why This Matters for Boxing

Engrains minimal head movement — slip just enough to avoid the punch, no more. The rope teaches efficiency: if you move too much, you waste energy; if you move too little, the rope touches you.

How To Do It

  1. 1Tie a rope at about chin height between two points.
  2. 2Stand in your fighting stance next to the rope.
  3. 3Move along the rope, slipping your head under it side to side.
  4. 4Move forward and backward while continuously slipping.
  5. 5Keep your feet active and your hands at guard.

Pro Tips

  • The rope should barely miss your head — that's the right amount of movement.
  • Add punches after slips once you're comfortable.
  • This is how Mike Tyson trained his head movement.
